Abstract : Obesity is a very big problem all over the world high and middle class of rich and poor countries. A study has been made on the students of the Home Economics and Art Education College, to know the effect of social level and food habits on the spread of overweight and obesity. By using Anthropometric measurements and find out knowledge about nutrition and to determine the prevalence of obesity by using Body Mass Index (BMI) and study their 24 hour – recall and their food habits and their relation of fast food on obesity, and to evaluate their nutritional state. A healthy balanced diet has been established to teach them how to lose weight properly. A stratified sample of 200 student were selected. Questionnaire and personal interview were used to collect data. The important results were as following: 38.5% were of normal weight, 27.5% were lean, 16% were overweight, 18% were obese. There is a relationship between the BMI and age. There is relationship between the social level and the parents education. 44% of the student make diet to lose weight, and it was noted that 36.4% of them used magazine and newspaper and books diets. It has been shown that there are side effects in the long run, since it is not a balanced diet. The reason for 69.3% of the teenage dieters was to improve their physical appearance. There was a relationship between the BMI and going on diets. It was found that fast food is the most likable for the students. Some of them recorded with high percent as the pizza 96%, French fries 93.5% Shawerma 85.5%, Broast 84%, Burgers 74.5%. And the local meals like mutabaq 72%, tammeah 75.5%. They are between 1-3 unites per week. It is clear that the diet program has a very good results in changing the measurement of bodies for obese students, the mean for weight loss is 3kg/month.
